Movimiento Manuela Ramos (Perú)

The Manuela Ramos Movement is a non-profit Peruvian feminist organisation that has been working for more than thirty years to improve the situation and position of women.

The movement began in 1978 as a space aimed at women who otherwise had only scarce possibilities of gaining access to information regarding their rights, and as a source of support when they find themselves defenceless. Currently the movement provides advisory services and training, as well as research on and the dissemination and defence of women’s legal, economic, social, political and reproductive rights within the different cultures that make up Peruvian society.

The interventions are organised along four thematic lines, as follows: the right to a life without violence; economic rights; political rights and citizenship; and sexual and reproductive rights. Cross-cutting issues are the gender and human rights approaches.

Publications and other materials regarding violence against women and Women’s Police Stations:

Masculinidad y Violencia Familiar. Guía Educativa. 2007.
An analysis of the sociocultural construction of male identity and sexuality, their relation to violence towards women and what possibilities exist to put a halt to it. The guide is geared towards youths, parents, justice operators and men in general, with the aim of generating reflection.
Construyendo Una Vida Sin Violencia. Guía De Capacitación. 2007.
This publication gathers the training experience of the Manuela Ramos Movement developed through the programme titled The Right to a Life without Violence. Alternatives are outlined for the struggle against domestic and sexual violence. Thus the book is conceived of as an educational guidebook for use by promoters, facilitators and educators in general, for the purpose of encouraging discussion on the issues of gender, domestic violence and sexual abuse, aimed at different sectors. The guide brings together a number of perspectives, including education and learning theory and the gender approach, which is present throughout as a cross-cutting issue. The best and most useful aspects of each issue covered is highlighted.
Evaluación de la ruta crítica del sistema policial-judicial en los casos de violencia familiar, en los distritos de San Juan de Miraflores, Villa El Salvador y Villa María del Triunfo. 2007.
This publication allows for a close glimpse at the complex reality faced by women moving through the justice system in Lima Sur. The programme on The Right to a Life without Violence presents this study for the purpose of promoting critical reflection on the efficacy of the enforcement of the Domestic Violence Protection Law (Law 26260).
